Night Markets
Langkawi
Langkawi has only recently been exposed to tourism and is there for very much untouched towards modern appearances of tourism. This gives the visitor the opportunity to experience a lifestyle, which doesn`t appear to pay much attention to the outside world, but gives the traveller the chance to unwind and slow down his pace as well to return to a lifestyle pattern more conducive to man.
The most attractive place that you can go to see the Island live Style is of course the Night Market when translated to Malay is Pasar Malam. Night Market is a place where hawkers sells lots of goodies especially things for everyday home use. It usually opens from 5.30 pm until 10.00 pm. Each day, it will opens at different locations. The schedule are as the following:
Monday: Ulu Melaka.
Tuesday: Kedawang
Wednesday/Saturday: Kuah.
Thursday: Temoyong.
Friday: Air Hangat.
Sunday: Padang Matsirat.
In the evening it's very nice to walk along all the stalls in search for something to take home. The salesman are certainly not pushy. If it's raining there's a chance, that they won't come at all. And when the selling is bad, then they close sometimes a little bit earlier. They arrive in little vans, which are fully loaded with their business. What you can buy Cd's, dvd, clothes, T-shirts, souvenirs, paintings, handbags, wallets, sunglasses and so on. Of course ...... most is immitations stuff, like the watches (Rolex, Breiling), the sunglasses (Gucci), the hanbags (Prado). The selling of fake watches, t-shirts or sunglasses is is permitted here.
