PAYAR ISLAND MARINE PARK
The marine park comprises four islands, namely Pulau Payar, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang and Pulau Kaca. A ferry trip from Kuah takes around 45 minutes. The islands are surrounded by well-protected coral reefs that are home to numerous species of underwater creatures. Attracting divers from all over the world, the park offers a variety of diving conditions, from flat terrain to more challenging steep slopes. There is insufficient freshwater at the park, so bringing your own supply is advisable. PULAU DAYANG BUNTING (The Island of the Pregnant Maiden)
Pulau Dayang Bunting is the 2nd largest island in the archipelago. This island is special, as nestled within its core is a freshwater lake. For years, the lake with its legend has brought many a-barren women to the lake in the hope that drinking the cool water will make them fertile. This is a good example of a folklore that is still very much believed by the locals.
PULAU SINGA BESAR(The lion Island)
To the west of Pulau Dayang Bunting is Pulau Singa Besar. This island has been converted into a wildlife sanctuary for many creatures. Walking round the island takes 8 hours or so, but visitors may get a chance to see some of the local wildlife residing on the island such as monitor lizards, macaques, deer, the timid mousedeer.
PULAU BERAS BASAH(Wet Rice Island)
This island close by is a favourite for those who would like to do a spot of swimming and sunbathing. There are organised trips to the 3 island of Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Singa Besar and Pulau Beras Basah. If you make your own way to Pantai Cenang, there are boats ready to take you out. The boats leave at 9.00am and at 2.30pm and the entire trip takes 3hours.
PULAU TUBA
Pulau Tuba is mostly filled with mountains - there is very limited lowland. This is clearly seen especially at the rim of the island as there is hardly even enough space for the dirt track that surrounds the island. Activities are limited to perhaps a spot of hiking. Being undeveloped, this island is without a doubt still a natural habitat to an interesting array of wildlife - those on land, in the air, the water and even those in the treetops. Bird-watching or walking may thus bring you in close proximity to some interesting creatures. Even the deserted beaches would be an incentive for the sea creatures to put in an appearance.
PULAU BUMBON
Ten minutes from the Kuah jetty lies yet another island, Pulau Bumbon. There are some pleasant beaches there and you can get to Pulau Bumbon by booking yourself a day trip at the price RM 25. A pleasant enough place to spend a few hours of peace and quiet on a deserted island.
