Chamber Music On The Beach
After a lazy afternoon in the clouds on Mount Gunung Raya we decided to visit the nearby Langkawi beach called Tanjung Rhu. It is a paradise on earth. After driving through unspoilt forests down a well paved road, we stopped between a few small beachside restaurants and shacks at the end of the road. Facing us was the beach that ad executives dream about when trying to evoke paradise. A sweeping stretch of white powder sand from the edge of the trees to the calm azure sea. A beautiful bay seascape with decorative small islands backed by verdant green jungle.
After iced water and ABC's, we stepped onto the smooth white sands, walking past the imaginatively named Tanjung Rhu Resort.
This extensive resort comprises low-rise series buildings just off the beach interspersed with beautifully designed swimming pools, palm trees and stunning gardens.Passing the resort we came to a dreamlike beach bar with heaps of windsurfers and sailing catamarans available for use. Classy and stylish, we enjoyed a G&T before moving on.
We passed two white canvas pavillions on the beach, each with a table and chairs stylishly set for dinner. What a setting for a romantic sunset cocktail and candlelight dinner. These guys do it with style!We explored the gardens, pools and restaurants of the upmarket Tanjung Rhu Resort. Truly amazing.
I have never before seen a swimming pool with a beach and sand bottom. The pools and gardens are superb, with an overgrown feel that makes you feel you're in the jungle.Their three restaurants seem equally well done, with famous international chef Udi Bachofner heading up a huge team of chefs. Judging by the menus, we'll definitely be back soon to try the fare.
Then to the main attraction. On a second floor balcony overlooking the beach we found the fabled chamber music quartet. We settled in the adjoining air conditioned library to enjoy the sunset in comfortable lounge chairs overlooking the perfect beach sunset. Civilized indeed!
