Langkawi Island of Dream
If you are in Malaysia, Langkawi is an island you should contemplate visiting. We went and were not diasppointed. Flying from KL we found Air Asia were cheap, ticketless and no frills. Langkawi Airport is small, clean and efficient cutting out the wait.
We hired a car from the airport- you have to use your negotaiating skills here as prices are open to haggling!. We chose a hotel on the far west coast which meant we did need the car! being a little island meant you are within access to the town of Kuah which offered a good variety of eating places. The prices of whisky being duty free meant you can afford to drink as much as you can take!.
Mutiara Hotel Burau Bay where we stayed was a dream with beautiful landscaped gardens and our rooms overlooking the sea and sand. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and some guests were happy to just sunbathe at the pool. The hotel was a firm favourite with families. Our boys engaged in water sports most days, available from the hotel.
In the evenings the boys disappeared into the bar and listened to the band. Fishing trips were a great experience as you its is the closest to island hopping without paying the extra. Sea diving is a must and we spent a day at Pulau Payar Marine Park. Don't be misled by the name-totally unspoilt, yes but the toilet facilities leaves alot to be desired! The sea diving was absolutely brilliant and well worth the money spent as you get close to the miost beautiful marine life including baby sharks!. All in all we had a great time just lying on the beach without a care in the world!?
