1,000 Japanese arrive to help plant trees
Japanese volunteers waving to the camera during their arrival at KL International Airport from Tokyo yesterday. The volunteers will take part in a unique re-forestation programme in the Paya Indah Wetlands tomorrow.
About 1,000 Japanese volunteers, who signed on for the project in Japan and paid for the trip to Malaysia themselves, will join 2,000 locals in the tree-planting ceremony. They will then leave on a sightseeing tour to places like Langkawi, Pangkor and Malacca.
The tree-planting ceremony is being held in conjunction with Jaya Jusco Stores Bhd's 20th anniversary and will involve the planting of 30,000 trees at a cost of RM1.1mil.
