Atma Alam Batik Art Village
Padang Matsirat
Langkawi's main Batik production and sales center founded by Aza Osman (oil painter) and Roshadah Yusof (batik artist/designer) is a treasure trove of local art and culture. Local artisans and craftspeople have been trained and encouraged to develop their creativity using local cultural themes and legends.
The half-acre center includes a batik workshop where you can see batiks being made, batik showroom, art gallery, batik gallery and handicraft shop offering affordable local products. Our range of hand-painted batik on silk and cotton are also available as a range of elegant casual and beach wear. Atma Alam welcomes you to partake in the village atmosphere and choose from a wide selection of Langkawi mementos. Original oil and batik paintings are on for sale and special commissions can be requested.
Atma Alam Batik Art Village is in Padang Matsirat near the Petronas gas station. Open daily 9am to 6pm. Entrance free.

Our second shop Atma Alam in the Oriental Village offers Batik painting courses in English, German and Italian.

AZA ART GALLERY
Aza born in 12th Sept 1951 represend the comtemporary artist of the Malaysian art scene. A significant to a generation of artistic talents fulfiing the local visual aesthetics. An additional forces to rise a new perspective of the modern aspiration of the malaysian thoughts in visual expressions.
After having spent fifiteen years (1967 – 1981) in Europe mosty in Italy where he studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he returned home with the desire to share his experiences with the local art scene Aza has always been concern with the many religious philosophies and visited Mosques, Churches, Temples and Puras due to his believe of the existence of strong forces within these sites.
It was here in the orient that Aza senses the overwhelming forces. In 1982 after his return from a long journey with an artis friend Khalil Ibrahim from Indonesia that he produced series of works from sketches to paintings call “Nazakâ€. Upon the theme of “Nazakâ€, Aza superimpose and inquiry into the nature of the creative art and the existance of the work as object or vision. Here lies the strenght of his vision the personalized interpretations and conviction of concious or subconcious experiences of emotion is dramatized. Aza created his images with a total commitment of emotions regardless of any stylistic antecedent. Aza’s visual expression reveals the symbolic syndrome of the psyhic gesture and posseses spiritual concern of life.
At present Azas’works get deeper into potraying the matter and spiritual aspects in whatever he chooses to express synthesizing all elements to tranform into visual expressions. Aza live and work in Atma Alam Batik Art Village, Padang Matsirat, Langkawi since 1987.
