Bookings For 7,500 Rooms During Chinese New Year
All the 7,500 rooms available on the legendary Langkawi Island were booked for the Chinese New Year holiday and traffic congestion were reported everywhere with traders extending their business hours to take advantage on the exodus of holiday revellers.
Most of the visitors chose hotels and chalets at Pantai Cenang because of the scenic beaches while many, who failed to get accommodation, had to sleep in their vehicles.
Langkawi Tourism Association Chairman (LTA) Pishol Ishak said the exodus of holiday revellers to Langkawi proved the island still attracted visitors.
Prior to this, tourist operators on the island had complained of poor business due to a drop in tourist arrivals in Langkawi.
Pishol said early bookings for accommodation had to be made before leaving to any destinations.
There was no need to build more accommodations because there were already sufficient lodgings for visitors on the island and tourist arrivals on the island were seasonal, he added.
Meanwhile, Langkawi Bird Paradise general manager Teoh Cheng Kung said the bird park received about 800 visitors daily during the holidays.
On normal days, about 200 people visited the bird park.
