Langkawi Gets Cart Host Job Again
The Morac International Carts Circuit here will host the Rotax Max World Championship Grand Finals for a second time from Nov 21-28 this year.
Mofaz Group president Mohammad Fauzy Abdul Hamid said Langkawi was unanimously picked as the host during the Rotax Max World Championship in Lanzarote, Spain, recently.
"The selection of Morac Circuit was a vote of confidence in Malaysia's ability to organise such a big event by the 60 nations that take part in it," he told reporters here today.
Mohammad Fauzy said a total of 140 cart racers from 60 countries would take part.
The circuit, owned by the Mofaz Group through its subsidiary Mofaz Motorsports, hosted the carts event for the first time in January 2002.
Mohammad Fauzy said the circuit would be renovated by adding new facilities at a cost of RM500,000.
The circuit, with a capacity of 5,000 spectators and 1.2km in length over 15 corners, is one of the longest such tracks in the world.
The public could also use the facilities at the circuit such as driving the carts at an affordable price, he added.
