Giant Jalur Gemilang for Nationwide Display
Malaysians will be able to see the largest Jalur Gemilang “flying in the sky†next month in a run-up to the 48th Merdeka Day celebrations.
The 1,453 sq m (25.5m by 57m) flag, hanging from a Bell helicopter, will start its 15-day peninsula tour from Pahang on April 18.
The peninsula tour will end in Johor.
The flag will then be flown in Sabah and Sarawak in the last two weeks of May. It will be flown for an hour during stops at each state capital.
The fly-the-flag-around-the-country feat is being shouldered by Skybanners (M) Sdn Bhd and an estimated eight million people will be able to view the Jalur Gemilang.
Skybanners chief executive officer Capt Mat Samion Abdul Rahim said the 80kg flag would have spent some 50 hours in the sky after its nationwide tour.
"This is a way of showing our love and patriotism by flying the Jalur Gemilang in a way that has never been done before in any part of the world," he said when launching the Jalur Gemilang Nationwide Tour 2005 at Dataran Merdeka yesterday.
