LTdL Stage 5: Brown Rides Into the Record Books
Greame Brown blew the opposition away in a bunch sprint to bag the 163.9 kilometres Stage Five of the Telekom Malaysia Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) yesterday.
The Kota Baru to Terengganu stage is the sixth ever stage win for Australian Panaria rider Brown, who has gone one up on Brazil's Luciano Pagliarini and Italy's Ivan Quaranta, to become the most successful stage winner in the Tour's history.
In fact, it was an awesome showing from Panaria, who led the peloton into the final sprint, with Ruben Bongiorno coming in second and Brett Lancaster third. It seemed like the stage from Kota Baru to Kuala Terengganu had been made for Panaria, as they repeated their feat from two years ago when Brown won with Bongiorno second.
Brown also kept the blue jersey, as the points leader, as the Tour enters Stage Six, a flat 152km route from Kuala Berang to Cukai, which features a category four climb at Kijal, near the finish.
