Kedah Happy to Open Tour De Langkawi
The Kedah Government Monday said it is happy that the prestigious Tour de Langkawi is returning to the popular island of Langkawi next year.
Langkawi, which was dropped in the ninth edition of the race this year, will be the opening stage for the 2005 Tour which will pass through nine states in the peninsula.
"We welcome the decision in efforts to promote Langkawi as an international-level sports arena," Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain said here.
He was confident that Langkawi's inclusion in the race could promote cycling while attracting more tourists to the island, he said, adding that the state government thanked the Youth and Sports Ministry and race organisers, First Cartel (M) Sdn Bhd, for that honour.
The 1,281-km 10-stage tour, which starts on Jan 28, offers a pot of more than RM1 million.
