Wavemaster to Make Yacht for Local Market

Wave Master Langkawi Yacht Centre, a subsidiary of PSC-Naval Dockyard Sdn Bhd, will soon start building 30-foot or longer yacht at its RM70mil manufacturing and servicing plant in Bukit Malut.

Senior manager Yii Chu Lik told StarBiz the yachts would be targeted at the domestic market. Presently, the four key yacht manufacturers in the country are targeting the overseas market. This is why we want to concentrate on selling to the domestic market where demand is growing every year for 30-foot yacht priced from about RM300,000, popularly used for fishing and other recreational purposes, he said yesterday. Yii said the yacht for the domestic market would be built with hardtop shelters to cater to the needs of local customers.

Since we are in Langkawi we can get most essential raw materials at duty-free prices. This will enable us to manufacture cost effectively and price our yacht competitively, he said. Yii said Wavemaster's production initially would be two a year, subsequently increasing it to five a year.

Established in 2001, Wavemaster started out servicing yacht and ferries in the region. The manufacturing and service plant is equipped with a comprehensive range of yacht building and maintenance facilities such as travelifts, overhead gantry cranes, ship halls, and specialist workshops.
