Tourism Ministry To Use TSA System Next Year
The Tourism Ministry will use the Tourism Satellite Accounting (TSA) system next year to improve its data collection for the tourism industry.
Tourism Minister Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad said TSA was a database programme which provided a more specific data on tourism products and areas, the hotel occupancy, points of entry and the profile of tourists themselves.
"It is a very good source of database, especially for planning, and for management of cost efficiency for Malaysia's tourism industry," he said after flagging off the Proton Edar Satria GTI Club Getaway "Kenyir Back 2 Nature" convoy drive here Thursday.
Toyad said the system, which had been successfully used in France, would cost more than Euro 500,000 (1 Euro = RM4.9).
France gets no less than 70 million tourist arrivals annually.
Toyad said for the year ended 2004, the hotel occupancy in Malaysia had increased 7.5 percent to 60.8 percent, as against 53.3 percent the previous year.
Seventy-two people participate in the convoy drive, involving 36 Proton Satria GTIs from Kuala Lumpur to Tasik Kenyir.
They will go to Karak, take the East Coast Highway, passing through the villages and oil palm estates along Jalan Jabor.
For the return trip to Kuala Lumpur, the convoy will pass through the coastal road from Marang, Terengganu to Sungai Lembing, Pahang.
