Encouraging Malaysians to Make Reading a Habit
Reading is crucial to becoming a lifelong learner and MCA has adopted three steps to cultivate the reading habit, said party president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.
The three steps, he said, would be coordinating with bookstores and publishers to organise more book fairs in towns and new villages, establishing ties with key partners to spread the lifelong learning culture and donating books to the needy as well as arranging reading clubs.
'We must reinforce our ability to analyse, reason and communicate ideas effectively by building our capacity to continue learning throughout life,†he said at the opening ceremony of the Lifelong Learning Book Fair at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara here yesterday.
He also urged the public to maximise the usage of public and community libraries as well as the resources provided under the party`s Langkawi Project.
'I believe reading will improve our knowledge and help the country build a competent, healthy and thoughtful society,†he said.
He said a globally competitive economy was built on sustainable resources and equitable growth and it was the core foundation of the party`s lifelong learning campaign to create such a community.
