Mofaz Moves Into Electrical and Electronics Mart
Diversified entity, Mofaz Group has started producing its own electrical and electronics (E and E) goods and will soon open a new wholesale and retail centre in Langkawi.
Mofaz founder and president Mohamed Fauzy Abdul Hamid said the group is close to signing with principal manufacturers from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan to utilise the centre.
"These principals are global brands that are not well represented in Malaysia," Mohamed Fauzy told Business Times recently.
The E and E centre is housed in a two-level 6,503 sq m building which was formerly Mofaz's aviation training school it purchased in 1992. The centre sits on 1.42ha site.
"We plan to open the centre in about three or four months' time before the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exposition 2005," said Mohamed Fauzy, adding that the floor space and infrastructure is now ready.
Mohamed Fauzy said the centre will also be a regional support centre for the principals as well as to showcase their latest innovations.
At the same time, Mofaz is awaiting the opening of its own assembly and designing facility in Johor Baru, Johor, by the third quarter of this year.
The 4,645 sq m factory is located next to Mofaz`s new motorcycle assembly plant.
Mofaz will be producing its own brand name, namely 'A-Sound' for its audio products and 'MoVision' for its visual items.
The factory will produce electrical and electronics items such as liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma television (TV) sets, DVD players and audio systems.
Depending on the models, Mofaz may contract out the assembly job to Nitro Electrics. Nitro group of China is Mofaz's motorcycle division technical partner.
Mofaz will introduce the 20-inch, 42-inch and 46-inch LCD TV sets from as low as RM3,000 which will include a DVD player.
The company is also offering the 42-inch, 46-inch and 60-inch plasma TV sets which will be priced competitively.
Mofaz expects its E abd E division to contribute about 10 per cent to the group`s earnings in three years` time. Business unit Mofaz Dagang will be responsible with retailing and marketing the group`s E and E products.
Apart from motorcycle manufacturing, the group has widely diversified with interests in a variety of areas ranging from retail distribution, motor vehicle and motorcycle trading, manufacturing of boats, as well as aviation.
Mofaz also runs the Sutera Inn Resort in Kota Baru.
