Langkawi Memento Misspelled
I am just back from a school holiday in Langkawi where one soon discovers that the whole island is raring and ready to welcome and pamper tourists with an array of interesting sights, original tours and glorious food.
However, I came across a notice board that reads:
'For order photo souvenir with Long as memorandum in Langkawi. Ready in 5 minit.â€
It was placed at the entrance of Dataran Lang. The English is appalling and I shudder at the thought that every tourist visiting the island will stumble upon it. The misprint of 'Long†for 'Lang†is most unfortunate too.
I venture a new text in the hope that the persons concerned (who were not present when I visited) will read this column:
"Your photo with Lang the eagle as a beautiful memento of Langkawi. Orders may be placed here. Ready in 5 minutes."
