MAS Looks To Europe And Asia for growth
The launch of Malaysia Airlines inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Stockholm-New York return service on November 1 signals the airline's expansion into Northern Europe.
MAS' managing director, Dato' Ahmad Fuaad Dahlan, said the airline was also thinking of flying to Madrid and Brussels as they have potential to increase its international passenger traffic. MAS expects to carry 60,000 to 70,000 passengers yearly on the KL-Stockholm flights.
The flight departs KL for Stockholm on Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 8.50am, arriving at 3pm local time. It departs Stockholm at 4.30pm to arrive New York at 6.50pm the same day.
The return flight departs New York the same day at 9.40pm and arrives Stockholm at 11.20am the next day. It leaves for Kuala Lumpur at 12.40pm every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to arrive the next day at 7.55am.
These non-stop services are operated on a three-class configured Boeing B777-200 aircraft with 12 first, 33 business and 233 economy class seats.
In a related development, Ahmad Fuaad said MAS is close to finalising a service to Kolkatta in November 2005.
