Malaysia, truly changing (SPECIAL REPORT: 25th WTM)
Malaysia is ready to unveil a fresh marketing tagline but new tourism minister Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad insists that the new slogan will remain true to its origins.
`We are moving away from 'Malaysia Truly Asia' but it won't be a big change,` he said. `We are still fine-tuning the tagline and I expect it to be something like `Malaysia Truly Exotic` or `Malaysia Truly Romantic`. `We should be in a position to announce something quite soon.'
The minister said that it was important for Malaysia to emphasise the quality of products and the value for money of the destination.
`Everyone has beaches, everyone has islands, so we must look at what Malaysia has that is unique and we must value-add to those products.`
Dr Toyad said that he was looking closely at the activities of Tourism Malaysia and he expected to make some changes. `We must get out there and be more active in our key markets,` he said.
The minister said plans were also well advanced to launch a new e-portal to promote tourism to Malaysia. `Currently there are so many sites promoting various aspects of Malaysia that are related to tourism - I want to consolidate all these people, like airlines and hotels, in a more user-friendly site.`
