Le Meridien Eyes Langkawi for Resort-Style Property
London-based Le Meridien group, which is opening its RM380 million five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 8, is seeking a strategic partner to operate a resort in the country.
Le Meridien KL general manager Brian S Pirie said its options included an equity partnership or the offer of its management skills to run the property on behalf of the owner. He said Le Meridien was eyeing Kota Kinabalu, Langkawi or Penang to set up its second establishment in the country. "We have had discussions with various parties but we need to find the right partnership," he said at Le Meridien KL's pre-opening media conference in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 8. irie said the group was scouting for various opportunities.
It could also be a take-over or a new built in the three destinations, he said. He did not provide a timeline. He said Le Meridien KL was targeting an occupancy rate on par with the industry average of 65%. Le Meridien KL is wholly owned by Daito Asia Development (M) Sdn Bhd. The Le Meridien group is the appointed management company to oversee the hotel operations.
