February Arrival an all Time Record
February figure in the history of the tourism industry.
Never before in the history of the tourism industry that the tourist arrivals reached 1.3 million visitors for February. Tourist arrivals to Malaysia for the month of February 2004 has set a new record as the highest February figure in the history of the tourism industry with 1,295,994 arrivals, representing 31.5% increase compared to the previous year. FEBRUARY 2003 (985,343) FEBRUARY 2004 (1,295, 994) % CHANGE (31.5 percent).
The year 2004 began on an encouraging and positive note for the tourism industry. In January, tourist arrivals registered 1.4 million visitors, thus making it the highest monthly arrivals in the history of the industry.
The February figure of 1.3 million visitors shows the continuation of a positive trend. The top ten markets that contributed greatly to the month of February are: Singapore (796,965 visitors), Thailand (105,038 visitors), China Tourist arrivals for the month of February 2004 have set a new record. It is the highest (64,671 visitors), Indonesia (64,045 visitors), Japan (31,254 visitors), Brunei (31,164 visitors), Taiwan (20,753 visitors), Australia (16,416 visitors), U.K. (14,956 visitors) and India (14,198 visitors).
Barring any setbacks and global uncertainties, tourist arrivals to Malaysia are expected to be on the upswing with the possibility of even surpassing the 2002 record of 13.3 million visitors.
