TOP-STORIES: LANGKAWI TO DO

New Booking Service for Langkawi's Best Holiday Activities

A foreigner living in Langkawi has gathered Langkawi's best holiday activities on a new website for visitors to get detailed information and see great photos. In Asia there are great tour operators and also many copycats that do not deliver the same quality and service. Langkawi-Insider.com helps you find the best available and offers a personalized booking service.

Langkawi gets World Class Snorkel and Diving

Langkawi visitors now have easy access to one of Asia's most beautiful groups of unspoiled tropical islands with white sand beaches, crystal aquamarine water and kilometers of coral teeming with parrot fish and thousands of colorful underwater creatures. The Tarutao National park in Thailand includes the fabled islands of Ko Lipe and Ko Adang.

Hungry For Golf?

Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Gunung Raya, resides one of the most refreshing and scenic golf resorts in Langkawi.
Sprawled over 300 acres of former rubber plantation land, Gunung Raya Golf Resort boasts an intriguing international-standard golf course designed by renowned American golf architect Max Wexler. Within its lush landscapes, you'll encounter beautiful rolling greens, panoramic tees, and impeccable fairways, magnificently contoured with sand traps and water hazards. Hence, Gunung Raya Golf Resort is an exhilarating golfing venue that will whet any avid golfer's appetite!

My Very Own Swamp

On the Malaysian island of Langkawi, there is some corner of a foreign field that is forever mine. Early one morning I set out with a naturalist, Irshad Mobarak, to replant some of the local flora.
We skimmed up the Kilim river by boat, heading deep into the rainforest, with limestone cliffs towering above, and a riot of green vegetation reaching down to the banks.
At a bend in the river Irshad stopped the boat and gathered up a clutch of mangrove stems, shiny and pointed, like small spears. We found a clearing on the opposite bank, and inserted the stems into the mud, where, Irshad assured me, their seeds would take root with amazing speed. "So how does it feel," he asked, "starting your own swamp?"

Shopping in Langkawi

Langkawi is a duty-free shopping haven offering an attractive range of local and imported goods for those with a yen for shopping. Most of the island's shopping establishments can be found in and around Kuah.
A good place to start one's shopping spree is the modern Langkawi Fair Shopping Mall, consisting of 100 retail lots housed in a 2-storey building. Its anchor tenant, the Samudra Duty Free Department Store, stocks a wide selection of items such as perfumes and fragrances, cosmetics, leather wear, sports gear, ladies' accessories, confectionery, liquor and cigarettes. The other shopping outlets to check out in Kuah is the Langkawi Duty Free (M) Sdn. Bhd and the Saga Shopping Centre. The former sells a range of duty free items and the latter a variety of imported kitchenware and household appliances, clothing, luggage, confectionery and assorted goods.

Air Trekking in Langkawi Jungle Treetops

What is air trekking? To date (end of 2001), France is the leading European country promoting and organising Air Trekking in its vast forest areas as a popular activity, replacing Canyoning and Bungee Jumping as the hottest new outdoor sports- simply, because it's in the nature trend and suitable for all ages.
According to 'Der Spiegel' 35/2000 - a leading German news magazine - Air Trekking has attracted already several thousand participants during the year 2000 summer alone.
While in Europe the emphasis on Air Trekking purel is embedded in its adventure aspects, the idea for Langkawi is additionally founded on its environmental and ecological opportunities, as an Air Trekking System enables tourists, scientists, professional and amateur photographers and film teams to discover the rainforest canopy world by day and night from a completely new perspective.
Langkawi Gets World Class Scuba & Snorkel

The honeymoon paradise island of Langkawi in Malaysia is recognized by travel insiders as one of the world"s great nature destinations with million year old rainforest, spectacular ancient mountains, and stunning wildlife including hornbills, monitor lizards, monkeys and rare species including the colugo.

New Langkawi Booking Service for Best Holiday Activities

A new Langkawi website sets out to guide holidaymakers to the very best tour operators and activities available. The new site www.Langkawi-Insider.com features a host of great activities offered by operators whom are known to be knowledgeable, reliable and offering great service as judged by foreign visitors.

Langkawi Events & Holiday Calendar 2006 - 2007

The Langkawi Events Calendar is sponsored by Langkawi Tourism Action Council in proud association with Tourism Malaysia (Ministry of Tourism Malaysia). To add your event to the Langkawi Events Calendar please email details and photos to mail@langkawi-events.com.

Adventure into Nature

A rapidly growing aspect of tourism is nature. This is due in part to the 'material' travellers who are insensitive to the impact they make on the places they visit. But unlimited developments in these tourist destinations would be a major factor should there be a decline in tourist arrivals to South East Asian destinations. But these tourist destinations hopefully will allot plenty of space for their natural charm, instead of trying to improve on what's already perfect. Nature is perfectly beautiful as it is. Irshad Mobarak, a naturalist residing in Langkawi believes that the natural heritage of the island, if managed well, makes it a very competitive eco tourist destination.

Reserve Psychology

These days, Langkawi has been given the green light for some dramatic restructuring of the environment. In the corner of the island, however, Sina Maran Tadun finds that it is still possible to take a walk on the wild side. As the starlight fades from the sky, a new dawn breaks upon the Macincang Forest Reserve in Langkawi. The sound of furious morning activities are not yet heard, although one does hear the hood of an owl which has somehow got, its timing wrong. Within a few minutes of leaving The Datai, situated at the foothill of the Macincang Range the skin is already covered with a thin film of moisture. One has to hurry from a languid stroll to a brisk walk to keep up with the resort's resident naturalist, Irshad Mobarak.

Langkawi Attractions by Road

A great way to see Pulau Langkawi's many attractions is to rent a car and drive from place to place at one's own leisure. Car hire is reasonably priced and the island is linked by a network of pleasant roads with ample signages.

Iron Man Langkawi Malaysia Triathlon 27th 2005

Ironman Langkawi Malaysia Triathlon consists of a 3.8 km swim set in the calm waters at the jetty in Kuah town. The swim is followed by a 180.2 km cycle of two and a half loops around the coastal roads of Langkawi Island. The terrain on the bike course is hilly and generally undulating. The final section of the race comprises a 42.2 km marathon run with two, 21.1 km loops. The terrain for the run is generally flat with a deseptive incline on the 4- 10 km and 24 - 30 km stretch.

Getting Close to Sharks In Langkawi

What would you do if you came face-to-face with a shark?. In Pulau Payar, Langkawi, Malaysia all you might want to do is feed it.

Pantai Cenang Area Overview

A two kilometre beach with fine powdery sand is lined by picturesque chalets built no higher than the coconut trees (thanks to a government ruling). Pantai Cenang is a good choice if you're looking for a relaxing time at the beach as well as a little bit of modern entertainment. Popular during peak tourist season, Pantai Cenang has something for everyone, including the following attractions.

Teluk Datai in Langkawi Malaysia

The north coast of Langkawi features a bay with the most stunning of all vistas on the island, namely Teluk Datai. The bay is home to the most exclusive resort and golf course on Langkawi island and the beautiful beach is reserved for guests of The Datai, Langkawi.

Langkawi Outlying Islands - Part 2

With no accommodation facilities available, this stop will have to be a day trip. A mere fifteen minutes' boat ride from Langkawi, it is the second largest island in the archipelago. There are two places of interest here, namely, the Gua Langsir (Cave of the Banshee) and Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden).

Langkawi Outlying Islands - Part 1

Nature-lovers must not miss Pulau Singa Besar, which is a wildlife sanctuary located three kilometres off the southern tip of Pantai Tengah on the west coast of Langkawi. It is a designated stop for the island-hopping boat.Ten minutes from the Kuah jetty lies yet another island, Pulau Bumbon.

Kuah Town - Langkawi's Center

One of Kuah's newest attractions is the Dataran Lang - for helang - or Eagle Square, where a huge sculpture of an eagle sits and presides over the island after which it is named. Situated just beside the ferry terminal, it is probably the first sight that greets visitors as they alight from boats or ferries.

Hungry for golf ?

Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Gunung Raya, resides one of the most refreshing and scenic golf resorts in Langkawi. Sprawled over 300 acres of former rubber plantation land, Gunung Raya Golf Resort boasts an intriguing international-standard golf course designed by renowned American golf architect Max Wexler.

Datai Golf Club

Langkawi is a great place for golf. The picturesque Datai Golf Club has some stunning views and is a challenging course.

Pulau Payar Marine Park

This jewel of an island is one of Langkawi's mystical isles, legendary for its spectacularly beautiful coral gardens

Special Bond With Nature

Irshad Mubarak doesn't look quite like what an "evangelist" should. Tall, tanned and hunky, he would probably be more at home in a Steven Seagal type movie than waxing lyrical about the lush greenery which surrounds The Datai.

Living it up Like the Rich and Famous

While most would consider yachting and sailing as something only for the affluent, take a closer look at what is on offer in Langkawi these days.

Laman Padi Langkawi - The Rice Museum

Visitors have the chance to participate in rice padi planting activities including the use of traditional planting methods and modern cultivation's process. Post-harvest activities are also demonstrated.

Pantai Kok - Langkawi Malaysia

On the western side of Langkawi Island, about twelve kilometres north of Pantai Cenang, lies a beautiful bay with limestone hills and forest. The water here is clean and relatively shallow, the white powdery sand the ideal place on which to spend hours lazing.

Air Trekking in Langkawi Jungle Treetops

The Langkawi Air trekking activities enable people of all ages to expand their comfort zones step by step in terms of what and how much adventure is their liking. The whole system is a mix of cables with safety and brake handrails, platforms, abseil activities and a postmans bridge and offers two versions: active and adventure level.

Langkawi's Unique Rainforest Canopy Adventure

Described as air trekking, aerial canopy discovery and canopy adventure, I prefer the term, Tarzan trail. It involves abseiling, rappelling, climbing, jungle trekking, and gliding high above ground on a cable system with safety and brake hand rails, platforms and a postman's bridge - all suspended 30m (98ft) above the rainforest floor.

Galeria Perdana

The idea for Galeria Perdana was mooted by Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. This unique gallery was built to display and share with everyone the various awards, souvenirs and gifts our Prime Minister and his wife have received from world leaders, statesmen as well as Malaysians during his tenure.

Langkawi's Amazing Canopy Trekking

While the emphasis on Air Trekking is often on its adventure aspects, Langkawi's air trekking is founded on environmental and ecological opportunities, as it enables tourists, scientists, professional and amateur photographers and film teams to discover the rainforest canopy world by day and night from a completely new perspective.

Home By The Sea

Twenty nine rooms and suites are surrounded by lush, flowering gardens and meandering pathways. This charming, Mediterranean style inn, combine the intimacy of a bed and breakfast with the privacy of a small hotel. Leaving the rush behind is so easy here.

Dinning in the Mangrove

On the face of it, a more inhospitable environment and less suitable place to be at dinner time are hard to imagine than a mangrove swamp. But in Langkawi it is THE place to eat.

Head In the Cloud

The variety of birdsong told us we were not alone. We watched a pack of monkeys crossing the road soon before the first lookout point.

Penguin Home Zooming Up

These new immigrants to Malaysia stand 60 cm tall and are exceedingly cute. Anyone who has visited a penguinarium will be waiting with excitement to see these new additions to Underwater world .

Rainforest, Sea and Perfect Greens

Datai Bay course is surrounded by forest with the imposing Gunung Mat Chincang to the west and the Andaman sea to the east. The fairways are covered with Bermuda while the impeccably kept greens are turfed in Tifdwarf.

Essential Buys in Langkawi - Langkawi Crystal

Today, LangkawiiCrystaal`s pieces are sought and collected for their unique design and uncompromising quality. Shunning the mass-production moulds of many major European producers, every one of the products is handcrafted, giving it an exciting free-from appearance rarely encountered in crystalware.

JivaRhu: a Celebration of the Spa Evolution in Langkawi

The five star Tanjung Rhu Resort on the idyllic island of Langkawi has launched an innovative new spa facility, JivaRhu, set to capture the imagination of spa enthusiasts around the world

Ironman Langkawi Malaysia Triathlon 2005

Lady Mahsuri Lives On

Today her story lives on and is recounted to millions of tourists who find their way to Langkawi island.

Langkawi's Beach Cats

It still surprises me every day on our sunset beach walk to see them. Boy and girl cats, always alone, some quite cautious toward humans.

Activities In Malaysia

Just visiting Malaysia - seeing a few sights, meeting its people, and eating good food -is more than enough to make for an unforgettable trip.

Langkawi Events 2004
